Pilates

Pilates, (pronounced "pull-art-es") is a system of physical rehabilitation and fitness developed by the Greek national Joseph Pilates in Germany. In the US there's an estimated 14,000 instructors with the number growing every year.

Josepth Pilates called his system "Contrology", because he said his method uses the mind to control the muscles in the way they were meant. The system focuses on the core muscles which help keep the body balanced and in alignment. The core is essential for providing support for the spine and neck. Pilates exercises teach awareness of breath and correct bodily alignment, and aim to strengthen the deep abdominal and back muscles.
