Sports Bra Guide

The importance of a good quality, well fitting sports bra can not be underestimated.
There is no muscle in your breasts, and without a quality sports bra they will bounce and jiggle during exercise. This (as many of you will know only too well) is not only painful, but can also lead to your boobs having less lift in the long run - no pun intended!

How Sports Bras Work

Sport bras work by compressing the breasts close to the rib cage for the greatest support and minimum of movement. They also need to provide total coverage for the chest - so don't bother trying to find a glamorous one!  Sports bras are purely functional.

Properties of a Good Sports Bra

  1. The bra should be comfortable and absorbent allow for wicking of moisture from the body.
  2. The bra should have no sharp edges or rough seams as this can cause irritation.
  3. Strong wide straps to help support and not dig into the body.
  4. A firm underband is needed to stop it riding up your body as you exercise.
  5. Finally, doing a 'jump test' is probably the most effective way to test how good a bra is at reducing bounce!

If you're going to wear a normal underwired bra for sports, it's important that it fits you properly and the wires don't dig in as you exercise. In addition, it's essential to choose a style that gives you maximum cover – this means plunge and balconette styles are definitely out of the question.
